Clawdbot has officially rebranded to Moltbot, alongside a companion name change from Clawd to Molty. The team announced the change on X with a characteristically playful explanation: lobsters molt to grow, and so does good software.
According to the announcement, the rebrand was prompted by a trademark request from Anthropic, which asked the project to move away from the original name. Rather than treat it as a setback, the team leaned into the biology-inspired metaphor and embraced “molt” as a more fitting identity.
Same lobster soul, new shell.
The new name reflects both the project’s theme and its evolution. Moltbot keeps the same mission as before: building AI that actually does things, not just chats. The tooling, goals, and product direction remain unchanged. Only the branding and handles have been updated.
The project is now operating under the new handle @moltbot, with updated naming across its ecosystem.
For existing users, nothing functional changes. For new users, Moltbot is positioned as the same product with a clearer, more defensible name and a metaphor that actually fits how the team thinks about growth.
