Require-Dev in Laravel

Published on by

J.T. Grimes has a new post about keeping development service providers outside of the config/app.php file.

There are some packages which we only need during development, but which become tightly coupled with Laravel. Once you’ve added the packages to the array of ServiceProviders in app/config/app.php, you have to either have a different config for development or include those packages in your deployment.

I’m sure there are other ways to do this but I like the logic behind it. What ways are you getting around this? Or do you even care?

Update: Matt Stauffer reminds me via Twitter about the append_config helper

'providers' => append_config(array(
'LocalOnlyServiceProvider',
))
