Yesterday, Laracasts launched a free seventeen part series on Visual Studio Code and if you’ve been wanting to learn more about this editor it’d be a great place to learn all the in and outs on getting it set up for PHP development.

Outside of the common editor features and extensions they also highlight a few specific packages that are great for Laravel development like the Better PHPUnit and setting up debugging.

After watching this series and seeing Visual Studio launching live share I think this editor is going to be one to watch for in 2018. To me, it feels like it fits between Sublime and PhpStorm. Its fast, and with the right extensions you can get a lot of features the bigger IDE has.

If you are looking for some great themes be sure and check out the top five editor themes and make yours look beautiful.
