Joel Clermont just launched Mastering Laravel Testing, a video course that teaches you how to write useful tests in a real Laravel app and then apply each technique to your own projects.
Instead of building a todo app, the course works through a realistic sample app that starts with almost no tests. You get access to that app, so you can follow along even if you don't have a project of your own to practice on.
How the Course Works
Each lesson is short and covers one testing principle. After you watch it, your homework is to apply that principle in your own project. Joel suggests an hour or two a week for the lessons, plus time to put them to work in your code.
If you pick the community option, you also get a private Slack channel for testing course questions, so you have somewhere to go when you get stuck.
What's Covered
The course has 52 lessons in seven parts. 39 are available now, and the remaining 13 are coming mid-November. Some of the topics include:
- Feature test fundamentals, including factories, view data, and testing as a logged-in user
- Authentication, pagination, search, events, and listeners
- Policies and gates
- Forms, mocking services, database assertions, file storage, and validation rules
- Edit, update, and delete actions, plus dates, mailables, and notifications
- Commands, jobs, API resources, Livewire components, and using test coverage as a guide
The examples use PHPUnit, and everything translates to Pest if that's what you use. You can watch the free lesson, "Picking our first test," on the course page to see how it's taught.

Presale pricing runs until Friday, November 20 at midnight Central:
