Last month, developers from across the PHP ecosystem gathered at the JetBrains office in Amsterdam to celebrate three decades of PHP at an event called JetBrains PHPverse.
Organized as part of the language’s 30th anniversary, PHPverse brought together core contributors, framework authors, and passionate community members for a one-day event packed with insightful talks. From long-time maintainers to new faces in internals, the event served as both a reflection on PHP’s evolution and a glimpse at what’s coming next. Streamed online, it peaked at 4k+ people watching live from all over the world.
Now that all the talks have been published, this is the perfect time to revisit the key moments and catch up with any talks you may have missed.
PHPverse Talks
- FrankenPHP: the future of PHP?
- 20 Years of Symfony
- MCP in PHP
- How AI Is Changing the Tech Industry
- Q&A with Taylor Otwell
- The Future of PHP Education
- Growing PHP for the Future
Jetbrains Offices
PHPverse was held at the JetBrains Amsterdam office, a modern and stylish location. Complete with a lunch room, on staff baristas, and just a neat setup.
After checking in, we all headed to the recording studio, where the main event took place. It was great that the event was online, but they did their best to have all the speakers give their talks in person. This helped unify the PHP community by bringing people together in one location.
Attendee Interviews
While the event went on, I found a little office and set up a camera and microphone, and interviewed a lot of the attendees. You can watch these on our YouTube playlist. For the most part, I tried to keep it light and fun with some common questions, and then just getting insights into what each person does in the community.
PHPverse Swag
Of course, no event is complete without some awesome swag, and they went above and beyond. Each attendee received a bag filled with PhpStorm shirts and hoodies, a mouse pad, a sweet PHP Elephant Lego, and more! They also have a lot of these for sale in their swag store.

I had to make a video of me assembling this and thanks to JetBrains they gave me a few to giveaway which the winners have already been picked and notified.
Closing
In closing, this PHPverse event was really great and such a wonderful idea to get all the community together to celebrate the 30th birthday of PHP. I was honored to be included and can't thank JetBrains, the PHP Foundation, and everyone for such a great time.
