Laravel Live Denmark announced this week that David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH), creator of Ruby on Rails, will appear on stage at the 2026 event in Copenhagen. A follow-up announcement confirmed he will join Laravel creator Taylor Otwell for a fireside chat, hosted by Mathias Hansen.

The conference takes place August 20–21, 2026 in Copenhagen.

The Announcements

In its first post, Laravel Live Denmark wrote:

We are honored to announce David Heinemeier Hansson aka @dhh, creator of Ruby on Rails, on stage at Laravel Live Denmark 2026. A Dane whose framework inspired a generation of developers comes home to Copenhagen this August. Different framework, same craft.

A day later, the organizers followed up with details on the format:

We are honored to present a fireside chat between @taylorotwell, creator of @laravelphp, and @dhh, creator of Ruby on Rails @rails. Hosted by @MathiasHansen at Laravel Live Denmark 2026. A proper Danish hyggesnak awaits.

Mathias Hansen, co-founder of Geocodio and a long-time member of the Laravel community, will host the conversation.

Why It's Notable

Rails and Laravel are often compared, and the two frameworks have influenced each other over the years. Bringing their creators together on a Laravel conference stage, in DHH's hometown, is an unusual pairing for a community event and should make for an interesting conversation about framework design, developer experience, and the craft of building web applications.
